I wanted to thank my family and the friends, new and old who have supported me over the last few years as I have entered the political world. My time thus far serving the people of the Romoland School District has been humbling and very rewarding. In the fall of 2007 one of my dreams came true as I won a 2 year seat on the school board in a very close election. Since then I have worked to learn all there is to know, finishing my CSBA Masters in Governance in 2009 and attending study sessions and workshops at conferences. I was blessed to be re-appointed in-lieu of election in November of 2009 and began a new 4 year term in December 2009.

In 2010 we have hit the ground running and even with all of the education I have received on Education, there is a very daunting task ahead of us as a school board. Two words: Budget Cuts. They are coming to every district in the state, make no mistake. We are very blessed at the Romoland School District: we have positive growth, a superior staff and our CBO Hilda Swain is the best in the business. We WILL weather this storm and be a stronger, leaner, higher achieving district - however we need the entire board to work together with administration to do the best job possible!

It is for this exact reason, that despite the suggestions and support, I WILL NOT be running for the Democratic nomination in the upcoming special election for the 37th State Senate seat recently vacated by John Benoit. As much as I know that Sacramento is all messed up and as much as I would like to work to fix it, I feel it is best for me to focus on the school board and not be distracted with campaign related activities.

To my supporters, thank you. We know that California needs to cut wasteful spending, increase jobs, reduce bureaucracy and properly fund education so our future can remain bright and so our grandchildren can enjoy a stronger California. We need to make sure that Sacramento hears loud and clear that higher taxes wont fix a spending problem and it wont help small businesses to start hiring some of our unemployed or UNDER employed Californians. This may not be the exact right time for me to run for State Senate, however the importance of the message is no less. Call your State Assembly and Senate leaders and tell them, write them USPS letters and send emails. Make it known on blogs, facebook and YouTube how you feel. I will certainly be letting our local Reps know that cutting money from the classroom is not the answer. I will let them know that real leadership is what we need. For now, in 2010, this is the plan.

I look forward to working with parents, teachers, administration and the kids to make the Romoland School District the best K-8 district in the state!

Thank you,

Bill Gould

Romoland School District - I was thrilled to find out that our planned middle school was featured on the front cover of CASH magazine. I truly believe that this will be a fabulous school for our community, its design is awesome, including the use of solar panels and maximizing the use of natural sunlight in the classrooms so we can spend less on electricity. The school, when built, will be located in the Heritage Lakes development.

I wanted to thank the Middle School Planning Committee for the dedication they put forth to make this great plan for the kids. The administration at the district office deserves a big thank you for planing the meetings and spending extra time off hours putting in work on this process. A big thank you goes to our architect, PJHM, they were great in listening to the desires of the community and the board.

Take a moment and enjoy the renderings of the school, and read this article. If you click the pictures they will blow up to a size you can read.

Thanks,

Gould, who was elected to the Board of Education in November of 2007, has been a fixture in the local Arts and Music communities for years. He has successfully run Full Value Entertainment, a local DJ and Live Entertainment service in the Temecula area since 2003. In May of 2005 Gould started the Temecula Music Fest, a celebration of local and regional music of all genres, this year he has added an extensive art show to the mix, featuring over 30 local artists and jewelry makers.

While not busy booking talent, Bill operates the FullValueReview.com website, an Arts and News online newspaper covering the Temecula – Riverside area, also known as the Inland Empire. Gould also finds time to volunteer his time serving on the Board of Directors for local non-profit group VOICES aka ‘Joeys Pals’. Joeys Pals serves the Romoland, Menifee and Perris areas by providing grants to local high school graduates who wish to attend a trade school. Every December Joeys Pals proudly hosts a Christmas Toy Giveaway to local families in need, and for good family fun in May, the Lug Nuts Car Show.

“I am so thrilled to take this knowledge from the Masters in Governance course and partner it with my experience in business and community activism,” said Romoland Trustee Bill Gould. “The information I gained in the classes was invaluable. I feel that I am a better Trustee for having taken this course. The information I gained from the Faculty, interactions with the other Trustees and Superintendents taking the course has reaped rewards in policy reforms that have already taken place. We have created a strong Mission and Vision for our district and we are currently in the process of a District Strategic Plan that features a ton of input from community stakeholders.”

“This certificate recognizes a demonstrated commitment to learning, leadership and effective governance,” said CSBA President Paula Campbell. “The Masters in Governance program effectively expands the breadth and depth of knowledge our members are able to bring back to their school boards and districts. It’s a program that has grown steadily over the years and we hope it continues to garner such a high level of interest and participation.”

The Masters in Governance program, established in 1998, equips board members and superintendents with the necessary knowledge and skills to support an effective governance structure. Since its inception, more than 2000 board members and superintendents have participated in CSBA’s highly acclaimed Masters in Governance program. To receive the Masters in Governance certificate, candidates must complete 60 hours of intensive training on the role of the governance team in setting direction of the district, student learning and achievement, school finance and facilities, human resources, policy and judicial review, collective bargaining, and community relations and advocacy.

Wow, what an exciting 7 months since I took office as a Trustee on the Romoland School Board. I have learned so much in a short period of time and will continue to learn as I am enrolled in the Masters in Governance course thru CSBA. I wanted to give my sincere thanks to my fellow Board Members, as they have been a blessing to work with. Another big Thank You goes to Bobbie Plough, Peggy Wales and the rest of the staff at the District Office for making the transition from one Board to another very smooth.

I had the pleasure of visiting all of the schools during the last week of school during the end of year celebrations. It was so neat to see all the little Kindergarten kids singing songs and the thrill on their parents faces. I was honored to shake the hands of our very first class of 8th graders who are moving on to Heritage High from Boulder Ridge, our first complete Middle School. What a wonderful time it is to be a part of this School District as we grow. I have a few pictures I took during the events I attended, I hope you enjoy them!

Thanks - and have a great Summer!
